Our approach involves the use of a toothbrushes and toothpastes distribution to reach many communities. This affords an opportunity to a community needs assessment of dental problems endemic to those societies while profferring workable and community specific solutions.
Our passion is borne out of one of our core values which is commitment. We believe that commitment to a cause allows us to pursue change of unhealthy norms in that society. And this is true for oral health in Nigeria where 76 percent of the total population have one untreated oral health problem or the other. The organisation i founded, Wellness smiles health initiative, aims to solve oral health problems as well as positively impact society. My passionate team has a vision of providing oral health through literacy and awareness to under-served communities in northern Nigeria. In addition, the organisation provides early oral health treatment and preventive education to under-served populations and promotes a dental assistance fellowship for local women with otherwise inadequate earning opportunities, empowering them with a sustainable careers in dentistry. These free novel scalable transformational strategies are simple and reproducible in poor communities which have little or no access to oral healthcare. Within the last few years of it’s existence over 600 women and 6000 children have since been impacted by these interventions. More importantly, i believe that our activities in this cause allows for us to inspire professional community of dentists in Nigeria, to promote innovative ideas that will cause other solutions to the problem of poor dental health in Nigeria.
